Common steels

Four or five large makers worldwide produce most steels available on the commercial market . These steel producers use the same techniques and the same chemical content on a large number of their products. These steels are identical in all but name or are so similar they can be treated the same. A good example of this is the Bohler steel K460. This steel has a variety of names by producer. Its Udderholm equivalent is Arne and its AISI code O1.]

Other steels such as Ground Flat Stock and Gauge Plate have identical or very similar alloy content so will require the same heat treatment.
